Engine oil or commonly known as motor oil is used as a lubricant
in combustion engines. Engine oil is
made up of an oil base mixed with other additives mostly anti-wear additives
and additives like detergents or varnish.
Lubricant engine oil is an essential part for any combustion engine. They
are used for lubrication of the engine’s internal moving parts. Motor oil helps
in reducing friction within the engine. They also improve the durability of the
engine. They help improving the seals of the piston, removal of excess heat and
provide lubrication to the engine.
Origin of Lubricants
During the 18th century, steam engines were using lubricants which were
manufactured by mixing oil based with vegetable or animal fats. Those
lubricants were not as efficient and often created other problems for the
machinery. They caused the moving parts to stick together in long term usage
and those oils needed to be replaced within strict intervals of time.
Engine Oil
was manufactured as a cure to the lubricating problems of the steam engines.
The first motor oil was manufactured by mixing crude oil with few more
additives. The healing
and lubricating nature of crude oil made it suitable for usage within the
moving machinery parts. Crude Oil forms the basis of lubricants and engine oils
in modern times.
Features of Engine Oil
Motor Oil
is used for the lubrication of engines. It is used within combustion engine
which is used to facilitate cars, buses, smaller, vehicles, trucks and smaller
machinery like lawn movers or power generators. Another
benefit of using engine oil is that
is helps reducing the heat discharge within the engine parts.
Motor oil,
being a fluid, has a property to flow within the vehicle engine parts. This
creates a thin film of oil between the piston and other engine parts. This thin
film of oil reduces the wear and tear due to constant moving of the metal
parts. The usage
of engine oil ensures durability of
the combustion engine. The constant rubbing of engine parts is reduced due to
the lubricating action of motor oil.
Motor Oil
also protects the engine from corrosion. They act as an external coating which
helps the engine resist corrosion by preventing it from being in direct contact
with outer factors which promote corrosion. There are
different types of engine oil which is mainly classified into two categories: 4 stroke engine oil and 2 stroke engine oil.
The difference
between 4 strokes and 2 strokes arises from their engine working schemes. The piston has
to go up and down 2 times in one crankshaft rotation in 2 stroke engine and the
same logic applies to 4 stroke engines. Similarly,
there is another classification on the basis of working of the motor oil. It
may be classified into 2t and 4t engine
oil. 2t engine oil is designed to lubricate the engine, mix up with the
fuel, burn and then leave via the combustion tract. On the other hand, 4t oil is not manufactured to do so.
Inzin
Automotive Marketplace is an online distributor and manufacturer of automotive
engine oil in India. We are one of the leading engine oil manufacturers in Delhi. We manufacture automotive oil
and lubricants as per the industry standards and specifications. Our online
marketplace has a huge variety of automotive products including lubricants,
greases, spare parts and other automotive accessories. Engine Oil
is crucial for maintenance and functioning of engines. The lubrication aspect
of engine oil is one of the key features which promote the usage of engine oils
since the 18th century.
Vehicle
engines generate a lot of heat due to friction between its parts. This creates
a loss of energy and reduces the efficiency of the engine. Motor oils prevent
engine parts to cause much friction by coating them within a thin firm of oil.
This reduces the additional heat dissipation which helps in increasing the net
output of the engine. Thus, using
engine oil is overall beneficial for both the health of the engine and
performance of the automotive.
